Ukrainian Trademark Official Fees: What Actually Changed

Official UANIPIO trademark fees in hryvnia, what the "examination fee" firms still quote actually is, and why additional classes do not cost half price anymore.

Searching for Ukrainian trademark fees turns up a lot of pages quoting round numbers in dollars — “$100 to file, $50 per extra class, $150 for examination.” Those figures predate the 2020 reform and are wrong in structure as well as amount.

The fees, as UANIPIO actually charges them

Ukrainian official fees are set in hryvnia, not dollars, which is the first thing that goes stale when a firm’s site quotes a fixed USD figure and never revisits it.

Electronic filing is charged at 90% of the standard rate. That rate dates from Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 595 of 13 May 2026; before it, electronic filing was charged at 80%, so the UAH 3,200 figure still quoted in many places is out of date. We file electronically as standard, and our quotes use whichever rate is in force on the day of filing.

Two corrections worth flagging explicitly, because they are the ones that trip up a quote built from an old source:

There is no separate “examination fee.” Some firms’ fee tables still list one, as a line item distinct from the filing fee. It does not exist as a separate charge — examination is covered by the filing fee itself.

Additional classes do not cost half of the first class. At filing, every class costs the same. A multi-class filing quoted at a steep discount for classes 2 and onward is working from an outdated schedule.

Why the schedule moved

The amounts themselves are set by a Cabinet of Ministers resolution on fees for intellectual property matters, which is amended from time to time. The fee structure changed along with the substantive reform of trademark and design law by Law of Ukraine No. 815-IX, in force since 16 August 2020, which aligned Ukrainian law with the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. The other commonly missed change from the same law is the 5-year non-use revocation period, up from 3 years.

What about accelerated examination?

If a fee table includes an “accelerated examination” line, check the date it was written. Accelerated examination has been suspended since 3 October 2022, for the duration of martial law. There is currently no official way to pay for a faster queue position.

Converting to your own currency

We quote in UAH because that is the currency the fee is actually set in — a USD or EUR figure is only ever a snapshot. When we send a quote for your matter, we convert at the rate on the day and state both figures, so there is no ambiguity about which one is binding.

Reductions — and why they rarely apply to foreign trademark applicants

The fee resolution does provide reduced rates for certain categories, but they are narrower than they are often described:

  • The large reductions for individual inventors and authors (90%) and non-profit organisations (80%) are primarily a feature of patent and design matters
  • A 50% reduction for Ukrainian businesses owned by war veterans was introduced as part of the post-2022 support measures

For a foreign company filing a Ukrainian trademark, the standard schedule almost always applies. Where a reduction might be available, it has to be claimed with supporting documents at filing — it is never applied automatically.

If you are quoting a Ukrainian trademark matter to your own client and want the current figure rather than a number that has been sitting on a website since 2019, get in touch with the mark and the class count, and we will send the exact official fee alongside our own.
